The Next Big Step by Hannah - August 2024 Scholarship Essay
It was Thursday night at high school week of church camp. It had been a full week of learning, studying, and growing closer to God. The staff had poured into us day after day, and everything led up to this last night. The last song that was played at evening worship was “Reckless Love”, a song that I loved but had never felt its true power before that day. With everything I had been struggling with and all the emotions from the week laying heavy on my mind, everything came crashing down at that moment. The lyrics of the song pierced my heart and reached deep into my soul. I could barely sing; the tears soaked my face and the sobs choked me. All I could do was mouth the words, hold out my hands, and take in the love that God had for me, and was showing me that night. It was the best feeling in the world, a moment I’ll never forget.
God has given me a love for music, not only for listening and worshiping to it, but also for playing it. Over the past four years I have built my skills in playing guitar and singing, while at the same time honing my leadership skills as I step up to serve in my church and youth group. I lead worship at church and camp frequently and help run the teen band in my youth group. My passion for worship has lead me develop a passion for leading others in worship as well. I want to be able to share with others the beauty of music and worshiping God through it, and hopefully be able to lead others to knowing the same kind of love that God showed me through a worship song.
I believe God wants me to use the gifts and abilities He has given me to serve Him and lead others to Him. I have decided to dedicate my life to ministry in order to share God’s amazing love that has impacted me with the rest of the world. One way I hope to do that is through worship ministry. I want to be a worship leader on staff at a church and have the opportunity to share the gospel through music and lead others in worship. To take the steps in order to achieve this career path I’ve chosen, I plan to go to Bible college and study worship ministry. In college, I hope to take classes that will teach me about living a life in ministry, how to be a leader in the church, and advance my music skills so that I can be an efficient worship leader.
I believe it is important for me to attend college to get a solid education on worship ministry.
Bible college is a great place to train up young leaders where students get access to the best resources and lessons on how to fulfill their calling and dream careers. I will learn about being a worship leader from the teachers and professors who’ve lived it and experienced it. I will be trained to use the gifts God has given me to the best of my abilities. Bible college will not only supply me with a strong education on worship ministry but will also give me a college degree that will ensure me a good job at a church looking for a worship leader with a degree.
I hope to use what I learn in college to learn more about how to be a leader for Christ and working in ministry. I plan to use my college degree to get connected to a church and start serving there, using the talents God has given me to point people to Jesus and give Him all the glory. In high school, I have been able to take steps to practice leadership and become the person God wants me to be. I trust God’s plans for my future, so His goals are my goals. Going to Bible college is the next big step in order to achieve my goal for the future: becoming the person God wants me to be and pointing people to Him through the power of music.
