The sky's the limit. by hannah - October 2021 Scholarship Essay

In third grade I was told to do a project on a historical figure of my choice. The first person that came to mind was Amelia Earhart. For those of you who do not know of this name or her achievements as a person and a woman, they are outstanding and that is why I am choosing Amelia for this too.. Amelia taught me to never allow someone to tell me I cannot do something simply because I am a woman. All through her adolescence they doubted her and disapproved of her tomboyish ways and dreams of one day becoming a pilot. Even though everyone told her she could not, she proved them wrong by being the first woman to travel across the Atlantic by plane.
Earhart passed her flight test in December of 1921 and then went on to break many records all while being told she could not. Her first ever record set was in 1922 when she became the first ever woman to fly solo above 14,000 feet. Then in 1932 Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. When landing back on soil she received the “distinguished flying cross” pretty much an award for having such great heroism and extraordinary achievement while in an aerial flight; to make it even better she was the first woman to receive that honor. Even though Amelia Earhart was already successful, that was not enough. She wanted other women to be just as successful and have the same opportunities she did. She constantly advocated for other women by forming the ninety-nines organization. This organization is known as the “International organization of women pilots” and it provides mentoring, networking and even flight scholarships to professional women pilots.
In third grade i was told to do a project on a historical figure of my choice.the first person that came to mind was Amelia Earhart, now as a senior in high school i am told to apply for scholarships and I am told to write an essay on a lesson i learned from a character or a person in history, and again the first person that came to mind was Amelia Earhart. Because Amelia taught me that no matter who is against me as long as I am for me the SKY is quite literally the limit, and with the right attitude I too, can change the world.
