Success Is Not Measured By A Letter by Hannah - February 2021 Scholarship Essay
Many people would measure their success by how much money they made, and while that is a great incentive, I would much rather be happy and loving what I do. Success means that you have accomplished all than you have wanted to achieve and are content with the progress you have made. Some people may also feel that success is only felt when you reach the big picture, but it is not. Success can be made along the way and can even be beneficial to further pursuing your goals.
Personally, success in college means that I am moving closer and closer to completing my program. I had previously attended UNC Wilmington for Marine Biology but quickly realized that I was wasting my time in a program I was not happy in. While I was there, I took a full course load and during that time I passed all of my classes with an A or a B. To others, that would be viewed as success. For me, however, I did not feel that way since I was not enjoying what I was doing. I did not feel that I had been successful because it was not contributing to my overall happiness and my dreams/desires. I quickly changed my school and program, now I have never been happier (and I haven’t even started it yet!)
Even though I will love to have good grades and will be proud of myself for accomplishing all that I put my mind to, passing a class is not all that matters. Being excited to begin this new journey is how I know I will feel successful in every class and program I complete. I am making myself happier by doing what I love - and that is what I view as success.
