Remember by Hannah - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

There are a lot of things I wish I knew as an incoming high school freshman. No matter what your experience previously, there is so much to learn in the next four years. The most important advice I think anyone new to high school needs to know is to not lose an understanding of who you are.

When you start high school, you are thrown into a large, highly stressful environment. There is so much pressure from every angle to do your best, but to also fit in with your peers. I think that can be the biggest struggle for teenagers. It is so easy to lose yourself in those few but important years. As our world is now so engulfed in technology and obsessed with staying connected, it is easier to get caught up in the lives of others. High school can be a great experience, and it can help shape who you will become, if you don't forget where your priorities are.

I believe that high school freshman should start with a goal. It can be simple, but a goal that can realistically be achieved in their time there. It should focus on what they want to do and where they see themselves at graduation and beyond. Whenever they feel lost or unsure about where their path leads, that goal can help them remember who they are and where they stand.

Overall, incoming high school freshman should know that high school is going to be tough. They will be challenged and pushed to their limits. Having a goal in sight and keeping in mind what they stand for could really help them get through the trials that they may face in the upcoming years.
