College administrators have been increasing the cost and some students are claiming that a college degree is not worth the cost. The new advances in technology make having a college degree favorable in one’s career and can open multiple opportunities for students. Although some students believe college is costly and unnecessary for success, college is important and worth the cost because it increases one’s chance of being selected for the job, increases one’s earning potential, and improves social skills.

College is important and worth the cost because employers will be more likely to hire an individual who has a college degree than one who does not. Employers will probably seek an applicant who is pursuing a career and will most likely select the college graduate for the position. It also demonstrates dedication and a great work ethic that a non-college degree holder may not possess. College enables one to think analytically and gain crucial skills that should set one apart from the non-college degree holder in the job application process. Additionally, even in a career field where a college degree is not crucial, having a college degree can provide unexpected opportunities. College is important because it proves that the person was dedicated and it can increase one’s chance of getting the job.

Furthermore, college is important and worth the cost because a college degree holder typically earns more money than one who does not obtain a degree. The college degree holder will probably earn a lucrative job, and in return, he or she will earn more money. The gap between the college graduates versus the non-college graduates illustrates why it is important to earn a college degree if one wants to earn more money. The particular wage gap should make high school students consider their future and the amount of money they can earn by having a college degree, which can help pay for the cost of college. Despite the years of working by a non-college graduate, a college degree holds more value in the workforce as it also creates more job opportunities. By attending college, one will create a bigger boost in life and earnings. Money is major factor for survival in this era and a college degree can help one become successful. Based on this information, every high school student need to strongly consider enrolling in college instead of immediately entering the workforce.

The students are no longer surrounded by people that come from the same background or have the same ethics. However, by attending college, the students can challenge themselves to learn how to interact with different peers. In this new environment, the students can improve their social skills and be prepared for the workforce that has a variety of people. Also, the environment should enable one to be more reflective of their thinking while making new friends and succeeding academically in the classroom. Additionally, while in the classroom, the students will be able to exchange new ideas and learn how to communicate with people who have different beliefs or values which can improve one’s social skills. Interactions with the professors and other students should allow for the transmission of information and therefore shape the individual’s thinking. While obtaining a college degree, students can develop their social skills which can help them in the workforce. While attending college, the students can become better communicators and cooperative members of a team that employers are looking for in selecting a candidate for a position. The skills that one develops at college are identified by today’s employers that are important for success in both the workplace and secondary setting.
