The Power Of Positivity by Hannah - November 2019 Scholarship Essay
Hello reader! My name is Hannah Hassett and I am currently a senior at Lakeside High. Lakeside, if you are familiar, is an absolutely beautiful campus with some of the most determined students in Ashtabula county. Positivity here is extremely important to have and spread within the student, and even teacher body. During my 4 years of attending Lakeside High School I have been a part of numerous organizations, groups, and clubs. I played volleyball all four years, cheered for two years, was a member of Ohio Teen Institute, Leadership, Drug Free Club of America, Philanthropy, as well as holding an officer position within National Honor Society. Each one of those organizations have a connection to one another, some more obvious than others but all encourage the spread of positivity. I am so glad to have made an impact in my surroundings by being in these group! For example each one encourages a strong sense of character and leadership. In volleyball you show school spirit, teamwork and sportsmanship through friendly competition-each one of those traits are awesome to have and encourage. Leadership and National Honor Society convey traits like selflessness because of all the community service we do as well as showing kindness and integrity by becoming role models to other students and members of the community while helping others. As a past member of Ohio Teen Institute and current member of Drug Free Club of America I encourage other students to say no to drugs and urge them to hold themselves to a higher standard such as I do. Once a student decides to become a member we take drug tests frequently to ensure we are drug free. We make an impact on the thoughts students have about drugs as well through posters and facts about the negative consequences have on a body. Finally, as a past member of Philanthropy, we would look at local organizations in need and show how much we care about the community by giving out money to deserving organizations. I think positivity is more than just being happy and spreading happiness. Positivity is spreading meaningful messages, encouraging others to be great, teamwork, spirit, sportsmanship, integrity, leadership ans so much more. Being an active member in the school community shows positivity and pride! By being a part of so many organizations I try to embody a strong sense of character. By taking action and pride in my school I have made a difference in the atmosphere here in the halls of Lakeside High, I can stand tall and say confidently that Lakeside is one of the greatest places I have been. As my principle always says.."This is your day, make it a great one Lakeside!". I love that saying because it is so true, you have the power to have a good day and spread positivity everywhere you go. By spreading positive actions you may even make someone else's day great!
