The Early Bird Gets the Worm by Hannah - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
At 5:00 am my alarm goes off. It's cold and early, and so it's hard to get up. But being a member of my high school dance company means that I need to keep my commitments and do my best as a team captain. So I get up, change into my dance clothes, grab breakfast and my backpack, and begin the cold drive in my old Subaru Outback to the school. Once I'm there, we run laps and warm up as a team. By the time we are done at 8:30am, I remember why I chose to get up early.
Though I don't get up at 5:00am anymore, those three years of early mornings have stuck. Exercising early in the morning helped me feel more awake and productive. I was able to get more done and be more effective with my time. Those practices helped me learn important life skills and better appreciate the opportunity that I had been given. Some mornings it is hard to get up, but when I do, I get so much done!! I feel well rested and alert, and I try to make use of the time that I have. I personally believe that the saying, "The early bird gets the worm," is true!! Taking advantage of the day gives one more time to use, and gives them more opportunities. Those early morning dance practices have proven to me how effective early mornings can be, and I am reminded of this whenever I get up early to get something done. Experience truly is the best teacher, and I hope to continue to use these experiences to learn how to take advantage of the many opportunities that life has to offer.
