For the Advancement of Our Planet by Hannah - December 2018 Scholarship Essay
Our planet, though seen as a place full of compassion and intelligence, has far too many places in which people are suffering. Be it through the chains of oppression, the decay of starvation and sickness, or the disintegration of moralities, it seems as if humanity will be constantly stuck in a world filled with hatred. For as terrible as this sounds, we can escape this cruel fate through the advancement of knowledge and the spreading of light, brightening all dark corners and deeds.
This ability to advance knowledge is inarguably one of the most important qualities that a noble prize winner must possess. This means that the research that the person has conducted must be more than difficult, it must have a useful application to assist others, making their life easier. For example, many hours of research has been conducted to provide affordable drinking water to people struggling within Africa, America, and Asia. This research is worthy of a noble prize because it aids humanity for no monetary profit, but instead as an effort to positively impact their lives.
Far too often people seek profits rather than seek solutions to the problems that vain thy neighbors. This fact is why our world is still struck with poverty and suffering, despite its many advancements. With this in mind, it is easy to see why a noble prize winner must be willing to spread their research to help others, to further advance humanity. They must be willing to sacrifice monetary success; they must be willing to cast away the many miseries that plague our planet.
To be a noble prize winner, one must conduct valuable important research and they must be willing to use it for good, rather than for profit. If this was the reality for all people, not merely just those sitting upon the top, societies would be more just and our planet would truly be advanced.
