Podcast: Questions by Hannah - August 2018 Scholarship Essay
The easiest way to get a lot of people interested in listening to something, is to give them something that they're interested in to listen to.
The way I would structure my podcast is each week, I would encourage my followers on the different social media platforms to send me different topics that they would like to learn more about, and the most popular ones would be featured the next week. I would change the topic each week, focusing on different people, countries, controversial topics, or anything that people were interested in learning more about. Dale Carnegie said, "If you talk to a man about himself, he'll listen to you for hours," and I have found this to be true, so I would use this to my advantage. I would ask people what they want to learn about, and I'd do my best to teach them about it. I would also like to have a segment of the show where I talk about why that topic might have been so popular that week; some weeks the answer will be short and sweet, and others, longer, I am sure.
My podcast wouldn't grow boring because the topics would never be the same, and I could ask different experts on the subjects to help me out and talk with me on the show, and even have a section of the show where I record the audio of myself asking (for the most part) different college students I don't know about the subjects for entertainment purposes, because I will be surrounded by college students. The answers would vary widely, and the listeners would be intrigued to hear what other people have to say on these random subjects.
I would also ask these strangers to make up a poem on the spot in regards to the subject, because the somewhat forced creativity on the spot would not only be an entertaining, but also a lighthearted way to keep the listeners and those I approach in public engaged. Once my podcast became well-known, the students I interview in public will become more enthusiastic about participating, and the listeners could post on social media their own versions of the poem after the podcast, and other listeners could vote on their favorite; the favorite poem would be read on the next weeks podcast.
Overall, it would be very interactive for the listeners, and I would be able to ensure that the topics being discussed were never of no interest to my listeners.
