What Education Means To Me. by Hannah - April 2018 Scholarship Essay

If I were describe education in a hashtag I would tweet out to all of my followers; #LearningMoreAboutMyself. Throughout my three years of college, I have learned so much about myself. I have learned my strengths, weaknesses, and who I truly am. In high school, I was able to breeze by without pushing myself much. Breezing through things does not bring out a person's strengths and weaknesses. However, in college, every class was a battle for me. I had to constantly put all of my effort into each class. Along with this, I had to balance work, my social life, and family. This taught me that I am very organized and quite a perfectionist, but I struggle with the social aspect of college. I found out that I do not like to step out of my comfort zone. By learning this, I was able to begin to work on those weaknesses and turn them into strengths. Due to this self-evaluation, I have slowly become a better and stronger person. I will be more prepared for what life throws at me. Along with the above mentioned things, I learned who I truly am. In high school, kids can be mean and we often create masks for ourselves. We become what everyone else wants us to be. I did exactly that. I created this outside persona, so people would like me. However, this outside mask was not who I was. Once I went to college, I realized that no one cares what is on the outside and everyone finds the group that accepts them for exactly who they are. I found my group of friends that accepted me for me. I was able to take off the mask and show my true self. Once the mask fell off, I began to learn more about myself and who I truly was. I was lying to other people who I was, but I was also lying to myself about who I was. I learned that I really did not know who I was. In the end, I was only hurting myself. Getting a degree and furthering my education has done so much for me. It has done more than just get me job. It has taught me to be myself and create a better me. Education means finding me.
