Making Differences Teaching History by Hannah - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

I’m pretty certain that the only people who got more excited about the writing of the Constitution than my history teacher were the writers themselves back in 1787. If I were to reverse roles with a teacher I would choose to teach history. Several students believe history is one of the duller subjects out of the four core branches of study, but I think it is very fascinating. As a senior in high school, I have taken my fair share of history classes, some being better than others; however, I have come to realize how knowledgeable and competent my history teachers are and how they inspire me to have as much knowledge as they do. I would choose to teach history in order to expand my own knowledge and inform future members of our society about the past.

A person can never be done learning history. There will always be more knowledge to gain because one day something can be classified as a current event and the next day it’s history. As of right now, I am required to take all core subjects so I do not have very much time to study history. If I were to be a history teacher, I would have the time to study all the past events, how they have affected our society and what the people should do in the future in order to be successful. I find history to be very intriguing and I think that it would be the most beneficial subject to teach.

It is commonly said that history repeats itself. I am a very strong believer in this statement. There are many examples that show that events or situations often come around again in some shape or form similar to what had happened in history. I would like to teach history because I think it is very important to inform our future members of society about what has occurred in the past. If I were a history teacher, I would be sure to inform my students about the good decisions made in history as well as the mistakes. By teaching students about past events, they will know what strategies succeeded and what failed; therefore, they will know what to try again and what to avoid in the future. I would take great pride as a teacher for being able to teach the future leaders of our world about the past.

I believe history would be the best subject to teach if I had to reverse roles with a teacher. I would love to increase my knowledge in history and I think teaching a history class would be a great way to do so. I would take great pride as a teacher for being able to teach the future leaders of our world about the past and see what they can achieve in the future.
