Freedom of Expression in School by Hannah - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

Art. Art surrounds us everyday, everything we see, smell, touch, hear, is a form of art. With that being said, if I could teach any academic subject, it would be art. I believe that art is important for everyone to experience, especially students. Too often, students are kept in a classroom for endless hours being taught information that they are unlikely to use in the future, furthermore, their mindsets are limited as they are told how and what to think in each core subject.
Art on the other hand, gives students the freedom to create and inspire not only themselves but others as well. Art can be used in many different areas of our lives as it creates new perspectives, opinions and can be simply known as, creative problem solving. Being an art teacher would be an amazing way to touch the hearts and minds of students everywhere, having a classroom full of young adults who's minds are expanding through the introduction and use of art would be a blessing.
Inspiration, innovation and creativity are very crucial aspects in life , and a life changing way to reach and experience those aspects of life are through the use of art. Being able to freely create and think and can change and affect your life in countless but amazing ways. Art changes the way people see, feel and think about our world around us. Along with gaining the ability to see our world in a different and more broad perspective, but it also allows people to create their own world and their own life through art.
In all, art is all around us every single day, and it is impossible to ignore. If I could teach an academic subject in school it would definitely be art. Art teaches students the same if not more lessons as any other core subject and art is just as important. The inspirations of art should not be ignored, and right now it definitely does not get enough credit and is highly underestimated within schools today. I would love to be a teacher of art, to create a safe and free environment for students to grow and expand their mindsets and to take away life long lessons that they would not find in any other class. Art is creative problem solving, and that is something we all need to become more familiar and comfortable with in our society and world today.
