Just the Beginning by Hannah - August 2016 Scholarship Essay

I’ve always been the type of girl who woke up extremely excited to go to school, until I reached high school. The classes got harder and my nights got longer as I dipped my head into my books to make sure I stayed on top of my studies no matter the time of night. When I became a sophomore I took Psychology and it was the first subject that I’ve ever felt the most intrigued about. By taking this class I was actually able to get a more clear answer to the most asked question in my life “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

No, I don’t necessarily want to become a Psychologist but one job that really stands out to me is a social worker and I feel like I would’ve never discovered this as my dream job if I never took psychology class.
This helped me grow as a student because I was able to become more aware of many social issues that go on constantly in our community that surprisingly nobody really pays attention to because it’s not a part of their “everyday lives”.

Becoming a social worker will allow me to make a dent in certain statistical studies of our social problems because not only will I be doing my job but I plan to go the extra mile and provide certain insight to any families or individuals I come across on the job, that they may feel inspired to share with someone else.

I know my profession as a social worker will only be the beginning of many great things ahead of me.
