Advice for Younger Students At A Glance by Hannah - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

As twelve years of education passed by, my senior year of high school slowly snuck up on me, but I was surprisingly ready to tackle the year. Through all of the nights of studying, social events, friends, and finals, I realized that I knew what I was doing for the first time. Knowing what I know now about my experiences in school, there are three important things that I wish I knew as I was going through school. Those three things involve working hard in school, respecting your teachers, and finding a good group of friends.

First, as a student, your main priority is your school work. Therefore, please make it apparent that you actually try in school. By working hard to receive good grades all throughout your thirteen years of education, it will prepare you for the unimaginable tasks you will need to do later in life. Remember this: you aren't in school just to give you something to do, you are there to learn... so learn!

Second, your teachers actually want to help you, and some of them are actually really cool once you get to know them. It's simple: if you respect them, they will respect you. By having good relationships with your teachers, they will be more willing and able to help you in your future endeavors. For example, some of my favorite teachers have written college recommendation letters for me in which have helped the college on their decision! Also, it's nice having an adult to talk to in the building if you ever need anything as well.

Lastly, find a group of friends that acts like your second family. Whether they're all girls, all guys, or a mix of genders, these group of friends are what makes your school years the best ones of your life. Even though your group of friends will change as they get smaller or bigger, finding the people that make you happy is very important. Personally, I know that I found a good group of friends that I hope to keep even after I graduate high school. Good memories with your friends in high school will make you smile until you can't smile anymore.

As you make your way through those twelve years of school, make sure your last one counts. By balancing out your time with school work and friends, friends, you will for sure have a successful time in school. In conclusion, your high school years only come around once, so make it count, and don't forget to have fun.
