Time Management: A Hard Skill But Soft in Definition. by Hallie - February 2023 Scholarship Essay
After nearly four years of high school, I have learned so much and grown into a smart, confident, independent person. I learned about chemical reactions, the great wars of history and how to speak Spanish, however one of the greatest impacts of my education would be the mastery of soft skills, most notably time management.
The ability to develop good time management skills was critical in helping me balance my academic responsibilities, extra-curricular activities such as sports, and my part time job. It taught me that allocating my time was important in not only completing tasks but also learning not to procrastinate and ultimately reducing stress. I would often write a list of “things to do” each day and that included making time for myself to relax and unwind at the end of the night! Good time management led me to better academic performance, improved athletic skills, and the ability to earn money and gain work experience.
As I enter college next year, I know that time management will be even more important. I will be responsible for my own schedule, my work load and my success. I will be challenged with social pressures and my own sense of freedom, but I know that my life long lessons of time management will help me succeed at the next level.
