The Future of Learning by Halie - September 2018 Scholarship Essay
Think back to kindergarten, a time of curiosity and exploration. Everything was a new, exciting experience. The plan for most people was to continue education for at least twelve more years, but that seemed unthinkable to our little minds. We lived in the moment, and soaked up all the information that we could.
Fast forward to today. It is twelve years later, and I am about to graduate high school. I have plans of pursuing a medical degree with a specialty in oncology, which will take at least another eight to ten years. I am once again at the point where that amount of time seems impossible. Even so, as I get ready to start a whole new way of schooling, I am excited to soak up all the information that I can.
Twenty-five years from now, I will be forty-two. I will probably be working either in a hospital or in a private practice. I will spend my days meeting with patients and doing all that I can to cure them. Even when I have an established career, I will not be done learning. The world of medicine is constantly changing. Every day we learn that the old ways are not the best way of doing things. As new technology is invented, doctors must be willing to learn the new ways in order to do the best for their patients. In twenty-five years, I will still be learning as much as I am today, and I will be excited to soak up as much information as I can.
