I'm not just a name, I'm unique. by Hali - January 2015 Scholarship Essay
Individualism is what sets us apart from everyone else. If we were all alike then would another person be so great that we look up to them or would we even want more for ourselves if there isn't anyone to envy over. Teachers nowadays look at students as just a name or another person to walk into their classroom, but I think we should be considered more than that.
I believe students, including myself, would benefit more if our teachers looked at us as a different individual from another. If teachers would focus on what benefits us students the most and look at our basic needs we would learn easier and better. Everyone's needs are different and everyone shouldn't have to tweak their ways in order to learn a teachers way of teaching. He/She should look at each student individually and reach out to their individual needs. This, I believe, would give the student an easier and more comfortable way of learning.
From experience I don't like being left in the dust because I can't fully understand something that everyone else around me can. Each person has their own ways they like to learn. Some are visual and some need to write things down to remember them. I just think that if teachers cared a little more about the student as a unique, one and only individual, then it would make students strive for the best in their work and do the best in their work because they actually understand in a way that is comfortable and appealing to them.
