My Dream Life in Ten Years by Haley - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
In ten years I see myself teaching math in high school and creating an environment that makes me and others around me feel surrounded by a family. To get there, I know it would all start from me completing my two years at community college getting my general education completed there and then transferring to a local state school to get my bachelors in education. Then continue on my education to obtain a higher level degree and get a masters in education.
Teaching has always been a profession that has intrigued me and when I started looking into other careers, I always found myself going back to teaching. I love math and I love helping others. I know what it is like to not understand subject material and the critical thinking behind it. Math does not come easy to some people. I knew the day I had to start asking questions and really believe in my skills, when my dad thought the letters in my math homework were typos. As a teacher though, it makes me elated to think that I can help someone not give up and resent math, and instead make them understand that they can do the tough things in life, even if that requires some help along the way. Students should not feel that they have to everything on their own, and that it is okay to ask questions and gain a better understanding for themselves.
My education has heightened since I have gotten to high school and because of that, I would feel in a paradise just doing math for an entire day. That is how much of an impact my school and my thirst for learning has inspired me to not just do a “better paying job” but to do what really makes me feel accomplished with my life. So in ten years I see myself not only teaching the number one subject that I love but also helping others when they feel they’re struggling and confused. If I can make a student less baffled then I can leave satisfied and accomplished.
