My educational goal by Haley - August 2024 Scholarship Essay
Over the next few years I will be working towards earning a Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Cleveland State University. This is so I can sit for the NCLEX and earn my nursing license. Although I will be entering Cleveland State as a freshman I have already begun earning college credits. Fall twenty twenty-three as a high school senior, I picked up a few courses at a local community college through a program called college credit plus. In the spring semester I continued and increased my course load. This summer I have taken two more courses. Now I have twenty-six credits and have some of my science prerequisites completed for the nursing program. My passion for healthcare and sciences has increased and my excitement for nursing courses continues to rise. I have taken courses like Anatomy and Physiology, and Chemistry which proved to be more challenging than other courses, but continued to be the ones I was most excited to take. I believe that by gaining college experience before officially transferring for the nursing program, I have set myself up for great success. I found that I love learning about the human body. In some courses we were briefly taught about a disease, causes, symptoms, and treatments. These kinds of experiences really added to my passion for healthcare and added to my confidence in choosing nursing as my career.
I have applied for the Nursing program spring semester cohort at Cleveland State and I will find out if I am accepted sometime in the fall semester. During the fall semester I will be finishing off the prerequisites for the nursing program. Hopefully, when the spring semester starts I will be in my first round of nursing courses as well as my first clinical. Due to the Cleveland State University campus being so close to major hospital sites, a lot of my clinical hours will be completed there. Prior to this I will be asked to complete an interview for the nursing program. Potentially, I will be asked questions like why do you want to become a nurse, and how will you make sure you succeed in this program? I’ve thought about how I would approach these questions and how to explain my passion for nursing. In my mind it’s simple, I find health care fascinating and I want it to be a part of my life. I love reading stories of nurses from the emergency room to hospice, their stories are so inspiring. The connection they have with patients, their level of knowledge for treatments, the more I read, the more I want it. Completing the nursing program is my main goal for the next three to four years. I have the passion for the program and I have proven to be college ready. I have no doubts about my ability to succeed academically and in the workplace. There are many people around me who encourage and are impressed by my passion for nursing.
