Is education a right or a privilege by Haley - January 2021 Scholarship Essay
Having a good education is a wonderful component of life. Many people long just to be able to read or write, things that many of us take for granted. There are many different ways you can look at education. So the real question is, is education a right or a privilege?
While some believe that it is a right to have an education; others believe that it is a privilege. Education has been around for centuries, but most children that grew up during the 19th century era did not have a choice to get an education. Most of the poorer kids were sent out into the working field to earn money for their families. Only the more fortunate children were allowed to get an education.
Therefore a majority of the population were in the lower class and needed money for their families, so they were not able to get an education. Most of the children grew up not having a great education. So it was a privilege if you were more fortunate and could get an education. It was considered a privilege if a family were able to send their children to school and still have enough money to survive on.
In conclusion, education should be seen as a privilege rather than a right. Not everybody was able to get an education, they were forced to work on the farms or in a factory earning money for their family. Throughout history it was clear that only the more fortunate children were able to have a good education, where as the poorer children didn't have the privilege to have an education.
