A Dream by Haley - April 2020 Scholarship Essay
College has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I knew that one day I would be in the Emergency room saving lives and the only way to achieve that dream was to go to college. College is not just about learning though it’s about growing physically and mentally to a person that you are deep down. It lets you try different things so you can find yourself and achieve the greatest. College a place to make new connections and transform yourself into a product of your environment, I was always told the more you learn the more you earn.
My career that I am planning to pursue is to be a trauma nurse. In order to accomplish that, I will need to receive my RN and have at least one year of experience in the emergency room or ICU. Before that though, I used to want to be an actress and model like any other 7-year old’s dream. My mom always told me I could do anything I wanted, and she would support me as long as I would receive an associate degree to fall on just in case. If my acting and modeling career failed or I couldn’t receive any gigs, then I would be broke with no money trying to live off of minimum wage. With my 2-year college degree, then I would have a larger job selection to pick from or I could go back to school for just 2 more years and receive a bachelor’s degree.
Many people are worried about student loans and not being able to pay them off, which is very scary and true. Going to a local, 2-year college, is an average of $5000 a year so in those 2 years, you would spend $10,000 not including textbooks and other college fees. However, going to that 2-year school would be a vast amount cheaper than going to a big university, which is an average of $30,000 a year with in-state tuition. Out-state tuition could be doubled or tripled. When picking a college, you should do research, apply for scholarships and think smart about it. Personally, I find it the best choice to receive an associate even if you have no clue what you want to be or want to do as a career.
