Impacts of Study Abroad on College Education by Haley - November 2017 Scholarship Essay
Studying abroad in a college level education can positively impact many college students futures and their outlook on life. For me, if I were to go on a study abroad experience, I know that my outlook on how much the world is diverse will give me many emotions and make me realize that I can help make a difference in our world. As a future college student at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin, I know that I will be taking the opportunity of going on at least one of the many study abroad trips they offer to my major, nursing.
On these trips I have heard from many other alumni’s of different colleges, that going on a study abroad is an experience that all people should have. A study abroad could impact my college education because it shows me that many people all over the world need more nurses, and with that in mind, I could always remember I can help people all over the world. My college education would be greatly impacted by this opportunity because I know that people are struggling all around in every part of the world, and if I am in a nursing program that can teach me how to care for these people, and then I am put out in a situation in which I can actually help them, I know that my career path greatly impacts others lives.
With such ideas in mind, my college education could also be impacted in many other ways. To begin, I could strengthen my leadership skills, which are definitely needed in the nursing career path. I could strengthen these skills by learning how other parts of the world interact with leadership and how I can lead properly in different situations. Next, it could impact my education because I may come back with my trip with new knowledge and be even more interested in continuing my learning about my career path and beyond. Lastly, this study abroad trip could impact my education by making me feel that nursing is the career I belong into, and should always continue to work harder and continue to grow my knowledge about health around the world.
Overall, studying abroad would make me feel very nostalgic about the experience I have gained. One day in my nursing education I do hope to take the opportunity to go to one the trips that Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin offers to me. I know that studying abroad can impact my college education very positively because of the knowledge, the leadership skills, and the confidence I can gain through such an experience.
