The Roles Are Reversed by Haley - October 2016 Scholarship Essay
Our teachers have the best job, they get to teach the next generation graduating and joining the workforce. If the roles were switched between my teacher and me, then I would teach algebra 2. I chose to teach algebra two, because it's my favorite math class that I've taken as well as fun to teach. I know that because i'm currently tutoring an algebra two student. It's a fun course that is simple and helps students solve problems outside of the classroom.
To continue, Algebra two is the best math class: the students already have a background of algebra from algebra one, the students get to learn and excel, and the teachers get to watch as their students brain clicks when they finally get why they did something in algebra one. When i'm tutoring, I have so much fun; watching someone finally understand what you're teaching them is the best experience anyone can have. I understand that it's important that a student understand this knowledge, because math keeps building on itself and you'll need to know algebra for the rest of your school and math career. This is why I would want to be an algebra two teacher.
Additionally, I would teach algebra two, because my favorite teacher was an algebra two teacher. She helped me learn to appreciate math, and to understand that we don't just learn math to learn how to factor, we learn it because it trains our brain to figure out ways to solve a problem. Training our brain by teaching how to factor, graph, and find values are the best way to learn. This is why I would teach algebra two if the roles were switched.
