Development of Infants and Children by Hailey - August 2017 Scholarship Essay
As a college professor, my purpose would be to provide the information of the present to future generations. I would want to be with younger versions of myself, and with people who I know can make a lasting impact in the lives of others. Because of these reasons, I would want to teach classes in a medical school, most specifically concerning the development of infants and children. The Development of Infants and Children would be a class that contains my passion for neonatology and allows me to aid in the education of future doctors. Being with and shaping like-minded young individuals would be one of the most fulfilling careers in the world.
One of the reasons I feel that I would be a great professor is my love for the subject. Neonatology is a profession that has intrigued me for a very long time, and as a professor, my devotion towards what I am teaching is extremely important. Anybody can recite information, but what makes a good teacher is someone who actually understands the material and feels a strong desire to help others to understand as well. Emotions are often contagious, and a love and excitement towards a subject from a teacher often makes the class as a whole more enjoyable.
My class would consist of a variety of teaching methods, including book study, personal research, lecture, and hands-on hospital experience. By keeping students intrigued and busy, I could offer to them the exciting and satisfying world of child care. My passion for the class would create a fun and highly educational experience, and it would provide an in-depth exposure to what the future doctors I teach will be working with. As I watch the students learn and excel in the class, I can end each day knowing that in the future, they are more and more prepared to provide a long and happy life to young beings and their families. Physicians have a wide range of specialties, and child care may not be for all of my students, but my class will give them good insight to what they wish to specialize in.
Being in medical school, most of the students I will be working with are going to make an impact on the future. They are most likely going to continue down the path of medicine, and as they are devoting so much time and money to their education, I imagine that they will actually put effort into their studies. Unlike the most basic general education requirements, these students have found their calling, and are instead looking for the specifics that they are interested in. I can imagine that this would lead to a more fulfilling experience for both myself and my students.
Being a professor of a Development of Infants and Children class, I feel that I would take away something from each day. My devotion towards the subject would make every day less of a chore, and instead a fun and exciting new lesson on a subject I love. As a teacher, I would be a wonderful resource to the future physicians of the world thanks to this devotion, and I would create interesting lessons to aid in the education of my students. My overall feeling of completion and success would be greatly increased knowing that my work today can sometime in the future help others in need. My class may seem like a random and overall trivial course, but when examined closely, teaching my class could be one of the most important things ever done in my lifetime.
