Always Faithful by Gwyneth - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

Zoom! Every student's senior year of high school seems to dash right by. Each student surely desires to be remembered by fellow classmates after graduation. How would a student go about ensuring a legacy, never to be forgotten by peers? The answer is by simply crafting a Senior Quote in which a student has one sentence to sum up the experience of high school. This is what I have done.
A homeschooler since kindergarten, I have not ever been in the same situation as those who have attended public and private schools. However, I have many friends and acquaintances who are around my age. If I were to write a Senior Quote for them to remember me by, what would it be? This is the great conundrum that I found myself in.
After much contemplation, I decided on this quote: Semper fidelis, which is Latin for “Always faithful.” Now, I realize that this is the motto of the United States Marine Corps. By no means am I trying to say that I would like to join the Marines or attempting to claim that I have the fortitude and loyalty of a Marine. Instead, I wish to emphasize the action of being always faithful. I am faithful to my family, my friends, my nation, and, most importantly, my God. No, I am never perfect in this endeavor; yet, I strive toward the goal of being the best that I can be by embodying faithfulness. Faithfulness is an important aspect to all kinds of things, ranging from marriage to patriotism and from honesty to accountability. You may be wondering how this would pertain to me. The word “faithful” is defined by the New Oxford American Dictionary as “loyal, constant, and steadfast.” I will elaborate on how these three words define me.
First, I find myself fiercely loyal to my family and to my friends. I always cheer them on in their endeavors and wish them the best of luck. In their failures, I strive to be there to lend physical and emotional help to get back up upon their feet. I have a loyalty to my country in that I support it and desire that it be the best that it can be. Towards my God, I venture to keep His commands and to pray to Him.
Next, I strive to be constant. While I have very close friends outside of my family, my best friends of all will forever be my two younger sisters. I try my best to always be there for them. I work with this in my other friendships as well. For my homeland, never does my love waver; I am fond of learning more about the history of this Great Melting Pot. Towards my God, I strive to be consistent in following and loving Him as I journey through life's path.
Finally, we come to steadfast. I am unyielding in my love and devotion to my friends and my family, never faltering in expressing these emotions. I have a steadfast patriotism that shines through in my national pride, especially when we are fighting for the hurting and less fortunate of the world's citizens. Towards my God, although I can never be as steadfast as He, I am firm in my belief in Him and in His love for me.
Am I just babbling on about the noteworthiness of being always faithful, and do I truly follow the spirit of this motto? I am human, so I cannot perfectly fulfill this goal. Yet, even in my imperfection, I have joy in the fact that I am doing my best.
