Education: Launch Pad for Dream Career by Grace - April 2015 Scholarship Essay
In “The End of Education,” Neil Postman stated that motivation doesn’t embody enough strength to propel students into higher education. Instead, individuals must strive toward a goal made possible by higher education. As a student, my goal for higher education is my dream career as a biomedical illustrator. The purpose of education, then, is to acquire the skills necessary to fulfill a goal, which, in my case, is work as an effective biomedical illustrator.
As a biomedical illustrator, I will facilitate academic learning through combining an acute understanding of scientific research with graphic design skills to provide the community with academic visual aids. Often, visual aids have enabled me to comprehend difficult subjects. Consequently, I am determined to turn my intellectual curiosity and passion for helping others into educational teaching materials that inspire others to strive after high education. Education is expensive but I persevere, knowing college is worth the investment because as a result, I will impact the academic and scientific fields.
Often, people strive to make a difference in the world. Those who succeed in making a difference had goals they passionately pursued. In chasing their goals, they took the initiative to gain skills to do their jobs well. For me, college is where I will gain the skills to launch me toward my dream career. Through your financial support, I will gain the necessary skills to assist academic learning by inspiring future students and better preparing the world’s future health care providers, research scientists, and technological innovators.
