Operation Others--Building a Community With 2,000 Jars of Peanut Butter by Grace - January 2024 Scholarship Essay

My driving goal in high school has been to leave a lasting impact, extending beyond my academic achievements. I wanted to ensure that I would be remembered for the positive influence I left on everyone I encountered. I made a commitment to balance my honors courses and extracurricular activities in high school in order to make a meaningful contribution to my community—a commitment I intend to carry forward as I pursue my college degree.
Since my earliest memories, I have been dedicated to volunteering, a commitment that has continued through high school. Starting my freshman year, I put thought into my service endeavors, including leading religious retreats and promoting monthly causes at school. I began to realize what I am passionate about and I sought to help the community through my passions.
This year, I knew it would be a daunting task to persuade my high school peers to donate a total of 2,000 jars of peanut butter to our drive. As a Core Team member on Operation Others, it is my job to organize fundraisers, drives, and donations to feed over 2,000 families in my community every holiday season. Operation Others is an organization to help address the rising issue of food insecurity every year. It is organized by a group of high schools in the community, and we gather enough food to fill 2,600 bags with holiday meals to serve the underprivileged in our community.
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside my friends and classmates, fostering a sense of community through Operation Others. The organization unites diverse individuals toward a shared goal. These acts of service are our duty to humankind. We know that we are privileged to have enough food during the holidays, and we want to give back. I give my time, talent, and treasure to Operation Others, receiving gratitude and happiness in return. Assisting those in need fills my heart with joy, and Operation Others has taught me to appreciate what I have and spread kindness in our world.
