Education and Its Translations by Grace - October 2022 Scholarship Essay

To me, education translates to confidence. I have always loved learning. I loved the feeling of knowing things. I loved having the ability to keep up with adult conversation. And the thing about education is that it’s like a forest fire. Once you start learning, and you are able to apply what you’ve learned to real life, the urge to devour every piece of information within reach becomes hard to ignore. I was insatiable. I wanted to know everything about everything. This eventually made me confident in my own abilities. I am introverted by nature, but a sure fire way to get me talking is to bring up something I’ve recently learned about. Education has allowed me to come out of my shell. When I feel knowledgeable about a topic, I feel confident talking to people about it.

Education also translates to assurance. I know that, through education, I am assured a future. I am assured of a job. I am assured of meaningful relationships. Education has given me the tools I need to feel comfortable entering adulthood. It has made me feel like I am capable of filling in the gaps that school has left me with on my own. I know that I can survive after high school, because I have been taught how to. Education has granted me the assurance I need to enter college sure of myself. This assurance goes hand in hand with my confidence. Education is incredibly important to me, and it has been for as long as I can remember. The act of learning is something that I feel comforted by. My Education is my armor. I am made up of the things I have learned. Without education, I would not be the person I am today.
