Achiever by Giulianna - April 2020 Scholarship Essay
My name is Giulianna Estrada, I am 17 years old and a High School Student of Franklin High School in Stockton, California. An Achiever is something I believe I am because despite my hardships and success, I remain striving for more in order to better myself and others around me. Through being at an IB ( International Baccalaureate School) and working hard not only to enrich my knowledge but also help my community through clubs I joined which were Key Club, MEECHA( Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlan) , JSA (Junior State of America), Saint George Youth Group, Yearbook, and Hmong club. All of these clubs taught me how to better my community with a helping hand or even learn myself what it means to help others. Through these clubs I have given myself opportunity to meet others with the same passion to better my community, Stockton, California. As a Latina woman growing up in a tough environment has taught me to persevere with flying colors and bring those around me up too. We succeed together, not separate. My dream as a college student is to gain as much as I can from different people and experiences I face. College has always seems like an unattainable dream for many of my family until my mother decided to make the dream a reality in order to better herself and her children. At age 35 with two kids, my mother decided to pursue her dreams of being the first generation to attend college and become a successful business woman. After struggling every single day trying to get her BA, she finally succeeded in accomplishing her dream. My mother has always been a major role model in my life because she fought for what she wanted and didn’t let anything stop her. While attending college she still found time to love and care for my brother and I. My mother is one of the reasons I want to go to college. To make her proud and to make myself proud that I would be able to follow in her footsteps. I will work hard to be able to be a person like my mother who is able to provide for my family constantly, and be so knowledgeable about everything. Something I am expecting from my college experience is to have some of the best years of my life. To be able to meet new people and share beliefs, values, and thoughts on things. I want to be constantly improving myself mentally and spiritually. College is a place that leads you to your future steps in life and guides you to be the best version of yourself you can hope to be. I am expecting to find new things about myself and others around me. I am expecting college to be a challenging moment in my life but something I will overcome and thrive afterwards. I want to leave college becoming someone true to myself but also improved and enlightened from what I learn from the years of knowledge I attain or people I meet. After my four years of college I hope to attain knowledge that isn't just taught but is also learned from gaining experience. I want to learn new skills, communication skills, adapting to the environment, and pressure to situations. In order to get what I can from college I’ll learn as I go by taking risks and trying things I’m not used to. I am hoping College will provide knowledge to many subjects. I want to make a difference in this world. Seeking higher education with people that have the same goals and that would allow me to bring my background prospective will benefit both the College and myself. Overall I’ve always seen myself doing something more with my life and becoming someone I am proud to be. College has always been a goal of mine that I have been taking many steps to achieve. I honestly believe that many steps I have and haven't taken has led me to this point in my life, where college is something I know will be next.
