The Three Components to my Dream Classroom by Giovanni - July 2020 Scholarship Essay

My dream classroom would be one of many components. One of these components would be hands-on learning. As a student that has taken physics, I am no stranger to labs and experiments, and I really enjoy these parts of the class. We get to collaborate as a group and test certain equations or principles, and this helps all of us learn the material and apply it. Using these labs and experiments we actually are able to see the physics at work; the visual connection allows many more students, including myself, to actually connect with and understand the material we are learning more than any type of powerpoint presentation or lecture could. This style of hands-on learning also fosters more collaboration between students. More collaboration helps students of all ages develop social skills and problem solving skills which are crucial later in a students life. Developing these skills early and having time to practice them would really benefit students. With all of the collaboration in my classes I have learned valuable social skills which I have already utilized in situations like interviews and volunteering.
In addition to hands-on learning and collaboration, my dream classroom would include more curriculum having to do with life after the standard twelve years of education. With this curriculum students would learn about how to narrow down a career, how to research universities, how to search for scholarships, how to ace interviews, and how to land the perfect job. I would have loved to learn about these subjects much earlier than my last years of high school so I could have felt more prepared to apply to universities and search for careers. That way, when the last years of high school came around I would know what career I wanted to have, where I wanted to go to university, and several other similar details. My dream classroom would teach students about these important subjects so that they leave high school feeling prepared and confident to enter the real world. I am sure that a classroom with hands-on learning, collaboration, and real life curriculum would greatly benefit all students and help better prepare them for their future.
