SOMETHING TO SPEAK OF by Gift - August 2022 Scholarship Essay
It’s my last year of highschool, and with that comes the anxiousness of possibly not having enough to speak of when it’s time to apply to college. My previous three years of high school have been very difficult due to lots of unforeseen obstacles. I can only hope that it has prepared me for what is to come in my last year. I brought up those three year because it has hindered my academic progress and opportunities. My grades reflect that but I’m still proud of myself despite it not being my best.
So this leads into my dilemma, my transcript; while my grades are decent, I believe it's not enough to make me stand out to any future schools that I want to attend. So because of this I should probably be more well rounded and extend my abilities to an extracurricular and partake in community service. Well I've done a good amount of volunteering and have met and passed the goal for my graduation requirement, but I can't say that I have excelled in finding an activity that I have a passion for, can learn from, and develop my abilities/talents with. Well, until now.
Now this idea is still a work in progress, but my goal is to create a club where I can exercise one of the skills that I am known for, speaking up for anything that I am passionate about. I want to create a safe space for people to have a voice, and to do this I need a platform; I thought the best course of action to take was to finally create a podcast. And not only does it provide a platform for people to talk and discuss lots of topics, but this can be a great opportunity to improve my speech and communication skills especially when I’m talking to the public! So I have started the process of creating this podcast club, coming up with the name and inviting people to join. Now I just hope that after some time my project becomes successful when the school year starts up in the fall. And I especially can’t wait to speak of this when it’s time to start applying to college!
