The most important lesson I have learned from a teacher through my experience in high school is that you have to put your full effort into everything you do, otherwise, you will not get the results you wanted. At some point in everyone’s life, everyone feels unwilling to put full effort in something because they do not think it is necessary, but when they see the outcome, they are very unsatisfied. This lesson taught to me by my freshman English teacher is very important to me because it opened the path for me to be successful. When you put your full effort into something, the results will compensate your struggle.
From my own experience, I can say that this advice is very helpful in life. For example, we had a project to do in my history class and we were almost done completing the assignment. The only thing we needed was the last paragraph of our report and we still needed to talk about the good things and bad things about the Columbian exchange. It was getting late, though, and my group was very tired. They all decided they would only describe one good and bad thing about the Colombian exchange and that they would settle for a B. However, I disagreed. I remembered the advice my teacher gave me and I told them that an A was still very achievable and that we just had to spend a little more time and put our full effort to finish the project. As a result, we all did a little more research and writing and in the end, we received an A for our great work.
Of course if you put your full effort into something, you will have great results. An example of this comes from my experience playing in a soccer team. That weekend we were up against the best team in the league and we were one of the worst teams. Every teammate that came to that game came with low self-esteem, thinking we were going to lose. At that moment I remembered the advice the teacher gave me and so when the team gathered up I passed on the advice. I told them that although the odds were against us, we had to try our best and put our whole hearted effort into this game because we had to prove what hard work could do. That day became legendary to the team. Our opponents were tough but you could easily see our motivation and aspire to beat them. The team was playing like never before, with full effort. That day we showed that when someone puts full effort into something, the outcome will compensate your effort.
The lesson I learned from my teacher will also be beneficial to me in the future. Before hearing his advice, I was considering careers that would not take much time nor effort. Now that I heard his advice, I am motivated to pursue my dream of becoming a civil engineer and I will definitely put my full effort into accomplishing my goal. Every time I decide to do something I am determined to do it with my full effort because I want to see the success that comes out of my hard work.
In conclusion, the lesson that was taught to me, by my teacher, has shaped and formed me into the person I am today. I am determined to give my full effort in college and in my career to hopefully make a difference in people’s lives. I want to be an example to the people around me and show them that putting full effort into something you do will definitely be worth it.
