Personal Narrative
A Dream Come True
The ball was in my hand, I was running down the field, I could hear people cheering and screaming. When I finally got in the endzone the first time, in my head I pictured my grandma smiling and I suddenly remembered her telling me, “you’re going to be a star, never give up.” Before I could even turn around, my team and my coaches were right there congratulating me, picking me up and throwing me in the air. Usually I would then look up and see if I could find my grandmother in the crowd, but the team was blocking my view. My grandma ended up passing away so now my passion for this sport is so strong. I feel like I can let everything out on the field and when I do it feels like she is there again.
Ever since then my whole mindset changed on how I want my life to be and how successful I want to be. My mindset changed because of how my life is and I don't like seeing my little brother not being able to eat sometimes and my mom struggling with bills. Every day I go to practice and work hard through everything, no matter what it is and give it all just for my grandma. I would shed tears but I would smile because I would see her face in my mind just smiling and I would hear her voice saying you can do it . She never let me quit so anytime I thought I could not do something I would hear that voice and it just made me want to keep pushing for greatness.
In my senior year now I still play and love the sport and want to go far in playing. When I can't play it kills me inside because I feel like I let my grandma down . So that's why for the rest of this year I'm going to play hard and not give up and try my best to bring my team somewhere . And I will never forget how it all started .
What football teaches me is how to stay humble by committing myself and by having people such as my coaches and parents knowing they can count on me to have good grades and go to practice everyday on time and show them I won't give up. Football teaches me how to stay out of trouble and focus on school and do the right things in life so I can be successful. Due to the fact I have to balance my education and football I have to make sure I have time for both because if I don’t, I won't succeed at both of these things and that's not what I want. I want be successful.
It was like my life changed because I know exactly what I want to do. I want go to college and play sports and get an education. One day I want to be able to take care of my kids so they don't grow up how I did. That's one thing that motivates me the most - looking back on what I went through so later in life I can talk about how I made it out.
