College Innovation by Genomi - September 2019 Scholarship Essay

College Innovation

Picture this: You end up choosing the right place, somewhere you love, with the right people before you even start your new chapter there. You’re manifesting your choices and your future by making sure it’s what you truly want and fits your person.

Creating a new high school curricular activity that persistently takes kids to see different colleges around the United States, and helps them out with questions they have of college will be a holy grail to high school students in so many ways. For one, colleges definitely sound a lot better when you’re hearing from them online or from teachers. But nothing beats the option of seeing and experiencing from the weather, to the classrooms with your own eyes. It’s a whole different experience and feeling you get as soon as you step on that campus.

Many undergraduates feel that they know what college they want to attend, but shortly after change their minds even for the smallest inconveniences like the weather, classroom size, etc. The learning environment might not be what you’ve been looking for, and later might affect the students’ attendance because of lack of interest.

College Innovation will be the name of the extracurricular activity, and in order to afford traveling, kids will sell snacks and drinks before, during lunches, and after school to save up money. Students may also volunteer during high school game nights and open a snack bar for guests. This will help kids learn about the differences between colleges, or might even convince them to go to college if that wasn’t one of their options. Any college questions or mentors kids need for guidance, College Innovation will be there.
