From Petals to Purpose: Growing My Future in Business and Finance by Genesis - March 2025 Scholarship Essay

Ten years from now, I see myself in a place where I can combine my passions for business, finance, and creativity. I imagine running my own floral business—one that’s not only successful but also rooted in sustainability and community—and also building a career in investment banking or as a financial advisor. I want to help individuals and companies make smart financial decisions while also growing a business that reflects my values of innovation and care. I want to be able to look back on these ten years and know that the hard work I’m putting in now is leading me toward a future I’ve always dreamed of.
Getting to that point won’t be easy, but I know my education is going to play a huge role in getting me there. As a freshman majoring in economics with a minor in business, I’m already learning things that I know will shape my future. My economics classes are helping me understand the broader economic forces at play in the world, which will be essential whether I’m advising clients or running my own business. The business courses are giving me the tools to understand how a company works behind the scenes—the financial management, marketing, and strategy that go into making a business successful. All of this is equipping me to balance my dual aspirations: to build a career in finance and to turn my floral business dream into a reality.
But it’s not just about the books. I’m also committed to applying what I’m learning in real-world settings. In the coming years, I plan to seek out internships and work experiences that will allow me to get hands-on experience in both the finance and business worlds. After I finish my bachelor’s degree in economics, I see myself stepping into a career as an investment banker or financial advisor, helping clients navigate complex financial decisions. This career will allow me to build the expertise needed to give people the guidance they need to achieve their financial goals.
Ultimately, I believe my education will be the cornerstone of both my entrepreneurial and financial goals. It will teach me how to think critically about problems, how to adapt to changing markets, and how to be a leader in both the financial sector and in my own business. By the time I reach 2035, I hope to be managing a successful floral business and advising clients on their investments. I know that a combination of hard work, the lessons I’m learning in school, and the determination to make my goals a reality will get me there.
In ten years, I hope to look back and see a journey of growth, learning, and perseverance—and I’m confident that the education I’m receiving now will be a big part of that story.
