Dinner with History by Gabrielle - February 2016 Scholarship Essay

If I had the opportunity to only pick one person to eat dinner with that was a historical figure I think I would choose Martin Lutheran King Jr. I had a hard time deciding between a couple people, but ultimately I chose him. When I was growing up Martin Luther King Jr. was always my favorite topic in history class. I loved talking about him and reading books about all the stuff he did for the civil rights movement. I could not get enough of it. If I had the chance I would ask him what helped him to push through all the bad times and how did he handle all the struggles he went through. I would like to know how much his faith in God was tested whenever he was marching the streets or thrown in jail. I would also like to know what he enjoyed doing whenever he was not trying to get equality for African Americans, did he like to play music or did he like to stay healthy. I would love to meet him and get to know the more personal side of Martin Lutheran King Jr. and also know some details about him that historians do not even know.
Even though I was not alive when Martin Lutheran King Jr. was helping Americans he still inspires me to show love to everyone I meet and to not judge others based on their skin color. I have taken my history knowledge from grade school and high school and started applying it to my life in college and I will continue to do the same when I have a career. I hope one day I can influence others the way I have been influenced by Martin Lutheran King Jr.
