My Version of an Ideal Classroom Setting by Gabrielle - October 2014 Scholarship Essay
Each individual has a unique way of learning, which requires an ideal classroom setting. I, as well, have a unique way of learning, and therefore need a certain setting in the classroom. I am a very sociable person. I love to talk to people and enjoy energetic interaction with other people. I believe that the teacher plays the biggest role in the classroom, since he/she is supplying the students with the knowledge for success. However, I need a teacher who reflects my personality at least a little bit. I need a teacher who is fun, passionate, and focused in the class, because it lets me know that he/she actually cares about me as a student.
However, I need to be able to focus in the classroom. I need the other students to maintain a level of quietness and attentiveness. Loud background noise will distract me, and even though the teacher may be loud and energetic, he/she should be the only one. With each student on task and focusing, I can understand the lessons that are being taught, and can apply them in future circumstances.
Next, I need a stress-free environment in the classroom. Too much pressure can cause me to lose my focus. Being relaxed and calm will help me absorb principles that will help me be successful.
Finally, I need a bully-free classroom environment. I have been in classes with bullies before, and it had taken an emotional toll on me, and caused me to lose my focus. I believe that teachers need to be extra aware of bullying or harassment in the classroom. I can do better, and am more relaxed, and focused on the lesson when I know the threat of being bullied, or someone else being bullied, is not there. If I know a bully is in the classroom, I am more focused on avoiding him/her instead of the lesson. As a result, I have missed out on valuable knowledge that will help me succeed.
These are my key points for and ideal classroom setting. There are four things I believe are important for a classroom setting: An energetic, fun, and passionate teacher, a quiet and focused group of students, a stress-free environment, and a bully-free environment. I believe each one of these will help me succeed will help me succeed beyond the high school realm, and further into the future.
