A glimpse of the future. by Gabriella - March 2025 Scholarship Essay
A courtroom is a stage of quiet suspense, the lawyer is ready to begin with a folder of evidence in her hands. She is ready to start her argument knowing every word she speaks and every piece of evidence she presents could tilt the scales of justice. I have always identified myself as a planner with thought-out and elaborate dreams. I am passionate about insightful vision boards, extensive to-do lists, and ambitious new year's resolutions; all things concerning self-improvement and reaching my full potential academically and personally. This being said, as long as I can remember I have had my future meticulously planned out and have worked diligently to manifest my goals. Throughout my high school years, I have planned out my courses to lead me in the direction necessary to pursue a degree in criminal justice. In ten years, I will be twenty-eight years old, the path I have worked diligently to achieve will have come to fruition. From an educational perspective, I intend to have completed my bachelors degree in criminology at Virginia Tech. Upon graduating with my bachelors, I plan to gain beneficial experience at a prestigious law firm working as a paralegal. Through seeking experience, I plan to ready myself for law school at The University of Virginia School of Law. Prior to or during law school, I would love to experience different cultures of the world through a study abroad program through the university. I could use these experiences rich in opportunity and cultural exploration to better my skills addressing clients in and out of the courthouse. These experiences abroad will undoubtedly contribute to my personal life as well. Whether it be from making friends with my peers or simply expanding my beliefs and knowledge through the events that accompany studying abroad. The course AP government and comparative policies has piqued my interest in European law systems and the various ways countries outside of the U.S. operate their court, government, and political systems. I believe being well-versed in global cultures is an essential skill to have when pursuing a successful career in law. Personally coming from a multicultural household has already helped me when debating global issues and affairs in my debate classes. Therefore, I have no doubt that experiencing various regions of the world will greatly benefit me in my future profession. On a more personal level, I believe that at twenty-eight years old, I will be happily married and hopefully starting a family of my own. Another significant milestone I dream of often--that I hope to have accomplished by twenty-eight, is owning my own house. These hopes and dreams can all become a reality in my life as I embark on my first goal of attending Virginia Tech to begin my journey towards a successful career in law.
