My Sentiment for Space by Gabriella - February 2025 Scholarship Essay

For as long as I can remember, I have always had a fascination with space. At a very young age I remember asking questions like, "how was the universe formed". I have also always been fascinated with figuring out how things work. Around the ages 3-4 I would always take things, such as pens, apart. Many deconstructed pens later my mom asked why I kept taking them apart, my response "I like to see how they work," that's when it became certain that I would become an engineer. I remember first visiting the Kennedy Space Center where I was enthralled by the information provided to me about space and space exploration. Seeing the Atlantis Space Shuttle for the first time furthered my curiosity and enjoyment in learning about the possibilities of space exploration. In 2023 during another visit to the Kennedy Space Center I had the wonderful opportunity to watch a rocket launch. That's when it was indubitable to myself that I would become an aerospace engineer. Learning about space and its endless possibilities is one of my biggest passions. I have spent hours learning about space exploration and cosmic phenomena such as black holes. I listen to educational podcasts about space and physics such as "StarTalk", by Dr. Neil Degrasse Tyson. I will be furthering my passion for learning about space and space exploration by studying physics. I then plan on earning my PhD in aerospace engineering, where I hope to one day work for NASA.
