America's Crux by Fuad - August 2017 Scholarship Essay

A college has a plethora of courses waiting to be taught causing the choosing of just one to be rather daunting, however, quite simply I would choose to teach personal finance. As a college professor, one can impact the lives of their students by leading them towards their vocation, however, the job of a personal finance professor is even more rewarding.
A personal finance teacher does not usually lead you toward your end goal, but, rather, a personal finance teaches students skills essential to propelling them up the corporate ladder. It is quite difficult for the ordinary person to have success in their work life when they are struggling financially in their personal life, and by taking a personal finance class students are given the essential tools to a successful personal life and subsequently a successful career. It’s a sad truth that currently people cannot follow their desired careers due to the simple fact that it is not financially feasible.
As a personal finance professor, I would not focus my time and efforts on budget making in a general sense, but rather I would have students plan out their financial future based upon their chosen major, and I would place them in worst case scenarios in order to allow them to understand how far one can truly stretch a dollar. By teaching my students these imperative life skills that are slowly falling by the wayside, they will be prepared to deal with the stress of life’s trials and tribulations and further the career they feel called to do.
As a people, college debt and money should not weigh us down. Money should be the least of a student’s worries when pursuing a career, but rather the joy they receive from doing the job they feel called to do should be paramount. Personal finance professors allow students to follow their dreams no matter the lack of income that will flow from it. These professors are not what inspire dreams, but what helps them become reality.
