Individual, Community, and Society. by Floyd - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

Education is one of the most unique tools our society possess. In my opinion an education serves as a way of progression. Imagine yourself today without an education. Imagine the years of going through life relying on others to guide you every step of the way. Hard to imagine that right? You may not have realized it, but the purpose of an education is to progress the individual, community, and society.

Looking at it on an individual level an education molds you into the person you are. From our early ages to our golden years we are forever shaped by our education. The medium of which is not limited to only school, but also books, movies, and real life experiences.Progress doesn't start with the whole it starts with the individual, and an education is a definite way to bettering the individual.

After the individual is transformed he or she can better their communities. How you might ask? Individuals can spread the education they have received to others in their community. An education spread throughout a community can have monumental ripple effects on how a community thrives and exist.

An education acts like a domino effect triggering one part after the other. The next link is society. When an individual is educated he or she is able to progress oneself and community. However when the community is educated it allows for our society to progress and be shaped. Imagine all the impacts made on our society. Imagine all the changes within your community. Now imagine all the progress you have made in your life. Do you think all this progress would have been possible without an education? No, I don’t think so either. The purpose of an education is to progress the individual, community, and society without it no progress can be made.
