My Future in Engineering by Felix - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

I plan on majoring in Mechanical Engineering because I have always been fascinated by how things move and work. As a kid, I loved watching drones fly and airplanes take off—not just for the spectacle, but because I was curious about the technology behind them. This interest led me to take advanced math and physics courses, and in AP Physics, I became the first person at my school to challenge myself in that course. This experience showed me that strong academics and hands-on problem solving go hand in hand.

Mechanical Engineering excites me because it blends creativity with technical knowledge. I enjoy working with complex concepts like fluid dynamics, material strength, and energy efficiency, and I believe that engineering is a powerful tool to address real-world challenges. One project that particularly inspired me involved designing a remote-controlled plane to deliver supplies to flood victims. While the technical details of aerodynamics and load distribution were challenging, the project was rewarding because it demonstrated how engineering solutions can make a positive difference in people’s lives.

I also see Mechanical Engineering as a smart choice for my future. I hope to pursue both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in this field and eventually work in sectors like sustainable energy or aerospace technology. These areas are constantly evolving, and they offer the chance to innovate and improve everyday life. With each new design and breakthrough, I will have the opportunity to contribute to important advancements—whether by making transportation more efficient, creating environmentally friendly energy solutions, or developing new technologies that improve our quality of life.

Choosing Mechanical Engineering is a reflection of my passion for learning and my drive to solve problems in a practical way. I believe that engineering challenges us to think critically, embrace creativity, and work diligently toward solutions that benefit society as a whole. My academic journey has been shaped by a curiosity for understanding how things work, and I look forward to using my knowledge to bring about meaningful change in the world.
