Knowing What I Know Now by felicia - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

Based on the information I've learned so far in life I would advise any teenager or young adult to take advantage of that school as to offer, take advantage of your parents wanting to help and support you, and lastly make sure you thoroughly think through every decision you have to make.
As a teenager I could’ve taken school more seriously. In high school I used it more as a social hour than a place of education. That was a major mistake I made, it ultimately affected my future education goals. Being a teenager and enjoying yourself is something that all people should do, but along with that they need to think about long term goals. What can I do tomorrow that can potentially affect my future career? Every college tour, scholarship seminar, and study aboard opportunity take it and run. With the information you’ll learn from all of these things they will only further benefit your future. Take things more seriously, it’s not all fun and games. The real world is cruel and not sugar coated. They pat your back when you do something good, or reward for never calling out of work.
Parents can be overbearing and annoying, I know I am one now. As much of a pain that us parents are, we solely want what’s best for you. Let us wash your clothes, drive you around and support you. No minimum wage job is worth missing class, or a study session to prepare for an exam. Take advantage of all the help your parents are willing to give. One day you will miss it, and wish that you could have it all day. You can’t get back your college years do everything you want to do while your parents can still help you.
Life changing decisions happen every single day. As a young mother as well a college student you don’t realize how something so little can impact your life. Make sure you thoroughly go through all your options. Weigh everything out pro and cons. Make a list, or get advice, know that things are not as they seem in movies, or television shows. Babies are cute but make life a thousand times harder. Simple tasks turn into huge ones. Be cautious but have fun, know what’ right and what’s wrong.
Achieve all your dreams, make a bucket list, see the world. Don’t let anything or anyone get in the way of what you want. That’s the advice I hope I give to someone younger than me. Take your education seriously, mooch off your parents as long as they’ll allow, and always think through every decision.
