Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Contest Essay Submission by Farihah - February 2024 Scholarship Essay
Dear Scholarship Committee,
I am writing to express my interest in the Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Contest as a student at the University Of Detroit Mercy, majoring in Cybersecurity. My name is Farihah Nuzhat, a rising junior, and a proud woman of Asian descent who deeply embraces her race and heritage. At this crucial juncture of my college journey, this scholarship could prove to be of immense help in offsetting some of my educational expenses while allowing me to focus thoroughly on my studies.
From a very young age, I was intrigued by the evolving world of technology. Rigorous school projects on cybersecurity further cultivated my interest, clearing my path towards the career I am wholeheartedly pursuing. I see Cybersecurity as an imperative vertical in today's technology-driven society, and I aspire to contribute my skills and knowledge actively to safeguard the integrity and confidentiality of valuable information.
My studies have equipped me with intricate knowledge about my field. I have learned not just about preventing unauthorized access, damage, or disruption but also understood the massive need for these measures in today's world. While attending the University Of Detroit Mercy, I have given my education the importance it deserves, not just because I am dedicated to my career path, but also because I understand the responsibility that comes with handling cyber threats.
I take immense pride in being an Asian woman studying in a STEM field, a domain often dominated by male counterparts. I am motivated to break the stereotypes and inspire other young women to explore this dynamically innovative sector. Pursuing a career in a field that is continually evolving is challenging, yet stimulating, and I am committed to meeting these challenges head-on.
I have been involved in various initiatives to not only expand my knowledge in Cybersecurity but also to use my acquired skills to give back to society. I strongly believe that expanding the cybersecurity workforce to include diverse perspectives is essential to effectively combat cyber threats. As a woman of Asian descent, I bring unique perspectives and experiences that can contribute to this cause, and I look forward to opportunities where I can leverage these.
In alignment with the Varsity Tutors' purpose of helping students achieve academic excellence, I am confident that this opportunity will further fuel my passion for my field and strengthen my capabilities. The $200 prize would assist me in reaching my academic goals and reducing the weight of college expenses that can often hinder focus on studies.
Above all, I am a firm believer in continuous learning. The prospect of collaborating with Varsity Tutors allows for an ecosystem of shared knowledge, broader perspectives, and unending journeys of education.
I am eager for the opportunity to compete for this scholarship, hoping that my passion, dedication, and drive reflect well upon my candidature. Thank you for considering my application. I am committed to using this scholarship to continue making strides in the world of cybersecurity and contributing to a safer digital environment for all.
Sincerely,
Farihah Nuzhat
