Prioritizing My Success! by Fametta - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

Setting goals for myself prior to every semester has helped me so much to stay focused and hold myself accountable week after week. Every year I try my best to hold myself to higher standards than I did before but also allow myself some grace if I don’t accomplish every goal that I had for myself.
Considering the upcoming school year I have many academic goals that I am hoping to be able to cross off. My first goal is to make it on the dean's list for both semesters. My first year of college did not go entirely as planned being that I was in a major that I ended up not loving and also struggling in. Now that I am pursuing a major that I love, I know that I can do so much better and improve my GPA so that will definitely be one of my top goals. In addition, I want to be better at capitalizing on all the information that I receive in class. I have found myself sometimes only retaining information for specific units, but college is a time to really focus on the information in the classroom in order to utilize it in the real world therefore I want to ensure that I am taking the best notes and retaining the information for the long run. To continue, I want to utilize my planner more so I can be more organized. Although I was able to get all my work in on time just by memorizing what I had due, it would be a lot easier to have it all written down in a planner so no accidents can occur due to me forgetting a simple assignment and losing the points for it.
Although I have many academic goals, it is also a priority of mine to ensure that my mental health is in good place because if my mental health is low I am unable to be the best version of myself in the classroom. Making my time for myself will truly help me do well in class so it definitely will be on top of my to-do lists!
