One Goal by Evonne - July 2015 Scholarship Essay

The one goal that I would like to accomplish in college is getting accepted into the medical program of my choice, which is Radiologic Technology. Getting accepted into Radiologic Technology program is my ultimate goal because one, Radiologic Technology is an interesting and perfect field for me to go into, and two, one of my dreams is to work in the medical field professionally. My profound feeling of working in the medical field started back when I volunteered at a local hospital. Volunteering at a hospital was such an experience because I have learned a lot and gained a lot of skills. On top of that, I loved helping out patients.

The thing that struck me the most from volunteering was seeing how many doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals devoted their time, effort, and dedication to each and every patient they work with. That is something I really admired because it shows a lot of courage and determine that they can keep their patients strong and healthy by taking care of them, which is not easy to do at times. Watching them doing their work and helping the patients out definitely inspired me a lot.

During my time at the hospital, I had volunteer in many departments, one of them being in the Radiology department. Volunteering in the Radiology department was an experience for me because I have learned about what they did by seeing the professionals working, being hands on certain things that they allowed me to do, and being fascinated on how the equipment and machine worked . During most of the time in the department, I was able to help patients get on and off the machine. I really enjoyed helping the patients because I get to communicate with them and telling them what to expect and what not to expect and reassuring them that everything will be fine. After helping the patients, I walk over to another room where the radiologic technologist is and watch how the whole process of the machine takes place. Watching the machine doing its work was very fascinating and it was nice to see all the action from the other side of the room with a real healthcare professional.

Volunteering at the hospital had given me more feelings of working in the medical field professionally. Since there are so many medical fields to choose from, there is only one that stood out to me the most and the most obvious, which is Radiologic Technology. Radiologic Technology would be a good field for me to go into because I love being in an environment where I get to help people all time and be able to communicate with them. I also like being hands on with things and getting everything done on time. On top of all that, I will get to use all of my skills that I have learned from volunteering; therefore going into Radiologic Technology would be the perfect field for me. Everything I’ve experience in the Radiology department will help me to achieve my goal to become a radiologic technologist. Being in a place of helping people, seeing and communicating with them is something that I would consider proud to do and looking forward to doing it every day as a career makes it even better.

In conclusion, everything from getting accepted into the medical program, specifically the Radiologic Technology program, and becoming a radiologic technologist, is my goal of accomplishing when I’m in college. If everything works out according to plan, it would be all worth it towards the end.
