Decade of Dreams: Where I See Myself In 10 Years by Evie - March 2025 Scholarship Essay
In ten years, I will be 26, and it will be 2035. When I imagine my future self, I will have medaled in the women's 100-meter hurdles at the 2028 and 2032 Summer Olympics. I will also be on my way to developing my own interior design company.
One of my biggest goals since before I can remember is to compete in the Olympics. I started running track when I was 4 years old and have participated in several Junior Olympics for relays and individual events. In my first year of hurdling, I qualified to compete in the Junior Olympics. The people in my life were amazed at how quickly I picked up the skill, and so was I. To get to the Olympics, it will take constant training and dedication. Even though the Junior Olympics took place during the summer and my classes were easier in middle school, I learned a lot about managing my time when I had practices after school and track meets on the weekend. At times, I felt stressed about finishing an assignment, but it was my own doing because I used to get tired and lazy and then put things off till the next day. However, I have worked on my time management skills and keep an organized planner with room for breaks so I don’t get overwhelmed and end up waiting until the last minute to do assignments. Balancing sports and academics has made me more appreciative of the opportunities that I have.
My real dream is to train at a four-year college while getting a good education. It will allow me to do what I love and discover a new passion for architecture. I want to design residential houses and make people happy and proud to call their house “home”. One day, I want to design my parents' dream home as well as my ideal home. I want to make my parents proud and happy to live their dream. One step toward this goal is to study interior architecture, which will require a good understanding of math and physics. I have already taken and passed Physics, Math 1 Honors, and Math 2 Honors with A’s at my high school. I am currently taking Math 3 Honors. To take 3 math classes as a sophomore required me to take two math classes this year. This was an easy decision for me because it will allow me to take AP Calculus in my senior year, and as a bonus, I love math. I plan to take 3D design while in high school to get a grasp on the concept of drawing up plans for buildings. To get hands-on experience, I am going to be interning this summer, shadowing an interior designer to learn all that I can from her and solidify my ideas for my future career.
The opportunity to grow my knowledge and participate in the sport I love simultaneously would be a dream come true. I am continuing steadfastly toward achieving my goal by excelling in both academics and Track & Field. I know my dreams are achievable with hard work, a passion for what I do, and all the skills I will learn along the way.
