Keeping Control of My TIme by Evan - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

Keeping Control of My Time
As I entered college as a freshman, I immediately realized that time management was key to being successful in this new setting. During my first semester, I didn’t implement this realization, making my final grades clash with my personality. To fix this disconnection, I decided to make time management my New Year’s Resolution.
Time management takes time and discipline to grasp and many college students don’t understand what it takes to master. By making this my New Year’s resolution, I will need to practice self control and self discipline in order to possess such a skill.
My first step to make this resolution come true is to use a calendar, whether it is on my computer or on a piece of paper. This is a good first step towards succeeding because I will have a visual representation of my daily activities. After this step, removing distractions will be one of the hardest steps. Within today’s society, technology is everywhere we look and with this technology comes distractions. Stated by Facebook, as of September 2015, there are 1.01 billion daily Facebook users. Out of these 1.01 billion users, the average American spends 40 minutes on Facebook daily (SproutSocial), the highest average compared to all other social media. By removing distractions such as Facebook, Instagram, video games, and television, staying focused during study hours will increase my time management skills.
Those two steps are just the beginning of mastering time management. Many other steps and values will allow me practice my time management and eventually, master this core value.
