Reversed Roles by Evan - October 2016 Scholarship Essay
If I had the opportunity to switch roles with an academic leader in my current life, it would be my physical education teacher Mr. Dunrud. Why physical education you ask? Because I believe physical education and exercise help form better students.
One reason I would which roles with my physical education teacher is because of the impact he has had on my high school career. He's driven to make students healthier and happier, which is a passion I feel like all teachers should have. Mr. Dunrud is outgoing, and makes gym fun, it doesn't even feel like we're exercising. We're always learning new games, sports, and fundamentals of different athletic scopes.
Many studies have proven that burning endorphins increases a person's mood and brain activity. With the increasing epidemic of overweight and obesity in children today, I believe that physical education at school is more important than ever. Getting kids up and moving will help fight obesity and also increase classroom scores. As a student athlete I enjoy getting to go to the gym and burning off stress that can be caused by the tough senior year course load.
Given the chance to switch roles with an academic leader in my school would be a wonderful opportunity, because it would give me the chance to partake in physical education. Overall, I believe an emphasis on physical education is a way to fight obesity and increase classroom focus and scores.
