The Gardener by Eva - September 2018 Scholarship Essay
It was the end of the school day at kindergarten and the parents gathered to hear their children present their future dreams. As I walked up to the podium, I knew exactly who I wanted to be. In addition to aspiring to be an astronaut or a teacher, I also stated that I wished to be a gardener. That got a laugh out of a few people, but I think they misinterpreted what I meant by “gardener”.
The way I see it is that gardeners nourish plants to have them grow the same way that I wish to continually nourish and grow my education. My seed has been planted and transformed into a sprout. I hope to soak in as much knowledge from my college experience as a plant thirsts for water and nutrients. By studying abroad I plant my seeds in different environments and gain perspective. I'll continue to grow as I receive a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. And my blooming educational journey will not stop there.
My educational goals reach far beyond the classroom and a degree. In 25 years from now, I look to encounter new obstacles each day to provide a continuous learning experience. Mechanical engineering offers opportunities in numerous fields so that I can challenge myself in stimulating and involved projects. I see my future self working at a leading corporation, collaborating, designing, and testing products and machinery.
So, yes. My goal is to be a gardener. And my garden of knowledge will flourish.
